This place has fallen off—hard. What we were served barely rose above mediocrity, and even that feels generous. We came for an early Sunday dinner; the staff was prompt and attentive, and we were seated immediately. Unfortunately, that was the highlight of the experience. We ordered the beef and shiitake, curry chicken katsu, and miso ramen. It’s clear this place is coasting on a tired neighborhood reputation—it simply isn’t what it once was. The beef and shiitake looked promising in portion size, but that illusion quickly faded. The dish was padded with excessive onions and filler vegetables, while the actual beef was scarce and slightly overcooked. The sauce was flat and uninspired, lacking any real depth or character. The curry chicken katsu was outright dreadful. The curry tasted like a watered-down, boxed afterthought with virtually no flavor. The chicken was unseasoned, dry, overcooked, and limp—completely devoid of the crisp texture that defines a proper katsu. The only dish approaching competence was the miso ramen, which at least had some flavor. These are the appetizers I had at Tamashii Ramen in Astoria. There’s such a great variety, and everything tastes amazing, so I always end up ordering more than I planned—but I’ve never been disappointed. The prices are very reasonable, which makes it even better. I didn’t get a chance to take a photo of the ramen this time because I was too busy enjoying the food, but the veggie jjamppong is one of my favorites. It’s packed with seafood, and the broth is light, clean, and not overly salty—definitely one of my comfort dishes. Usually after eating out, I feel really thirsty and end up drinking a lot of water, but not here. The food feels balanced and comforting, and I leave feeling satisfied without that heaviness. With prices going up everywhere, eating out can feel like a burden these days, but this place offers great value for the quality. The food is delicious, the atmosphere is cozy, and the staff are friendly and welcoming. It’s always a pleasant experience, and I’ll definitely keep coming back.

We got the miso ramen and the kara age. Perfect dish for the weather we’re having. Very fair pricing. Staff was attentive and so nice. Ramen was flavorful, warm and delicious. Chicken was crispy and flavorful. Def would be back. The only reason I took a star off was about seating. No back support def kills the back but maybe that’s a weight thing so it can be different for everyone lol

None authentic Japanese food/restaurant. All I can say is, maybe people who never had authentic japanese food can enjoy. Waited quite awhile until we get seated.

Ok so, I'm a ramen snob... So before the ramen I had the pork gyozas. A 6 at best. The "best Ramen" according to the waitress was the miso ramen soup. It was a 5 to 6 at best. The broth was thick and the noodles were needlessly hard. It came out quickly which makes me think that it was made hours ago. I know that ramen is now made on the spot but there was an excessive firmness to the noodles that didn't need to be there. The place is cute and this a nice place for a date or to bring a fam of 4 or so. The decor is really nice. The servers are really kind and just sufficiently helpful. I may come back but not for ramen, just because it is a decent neighborhood Japanese restaurant.
